Thanks to WNO's music director Tomáš Hanuš, son of Anna Hanusová, our beloved Flaška, the exhibition is now on display in the MC in Cardiff.
Flaška, as Anna Hanusová was nicknamed by her friends, was and is the soul of the "Girls of Ro0m 28" Project (Room 28 Projects). It was her desire to create a lasting memory in honour of their friends of Room 28.
Flaška was part of the Brundibár ensemble in Theresienstadt and for many years shared her experiences with thousands of people, young and old, and conveyed to them how it was for her to play in Brundibár and what the opera meant to her and the children.
I am happy that it is her son Tomaš who is conducting the music of this outstanding WNO production.
Brundibár and the Girls of Room 28 - these are two stories closely intertwined...
which is why the American publisher of the book (Schocken Books) created this book-cover with a still of the propaganda film (known as 'The Führer gives a City to the Jews') with children in Theresienstadt singing the finale of Brundibár.)
